THIRD FIVE YEAR PLAN

1. The third plan stressed on agriculture and improving production of rice, but the brief Sino-Indian War in 1962, Jawaharlal Nehru’s Death in 1964, Indo-Pak War 1965 etc exposed weaknesses in the economy and shifted the focus towards defense. This affected badly the smooth implementation of the Plan.
2. Growth rate was targeted 5%, however achieved only 2.2%. Much of the achievement was null and void because of 36% inflation and devaluation of rupee in 1966.
3. In this plan major emphasis was on basic industries but also agriculture, irrigation and power got 35% of the total plan outlay.
4. In 1965-1966, the Green Revolution in India advanced agriculture. The construction of dams continued. Many cement and fertilizer plants were also built. Punjab began producing an abundance of wheat.
5. Many primary schools were started in rural areas. In an effort to bring democracy to the grassroots level, Panchayat elections were started and the states were given more development responsibilities.
6. State electricity boards and state secondary education boards were formed. States were made responsible for secondary and higher education.
7. State road transportation corporations were formed and local road building became a state responsibility.

After the bad experience of the third plan a Plan Holiday was declared for three years. Due to famine of 1965-1966 , all available resources were mobilised for building a buffer stock and for stepping up food production . So Fourth Plan Period was 1969-1974.

SECOND FIVE YEAR PLAN

Second Five Year Plan (1956-1961)
1. The second five-year plan focused on industry, especially heavy industry. The target of 25% Increase in the national income was set through rapid industrialization however the achieved target was of only 20%.
2. This plan was based upon socialistic pattern.
3. Rate of Investment was planned 11 % now, as compared to 7% in First plan.
4. National Income in this plan rose by 20% but per capita income grew by 8% only.
5. Domestic production of industrial products was encouraged, particularly in the development of the public sector.
6. The plan followed the Mahalanobis model, an economic development model developed by the Indian statistician Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in 1953.
7. The plan attempted to determine the optimal allocation of investment between productive sectors in order to maximize long-run economic growth . It used the prevalent state of art techniques of operations research and optimization as well as the novel applications of statistical models developed at the Indian Statiatical Institute.
8. Hydroelectric power projects and five steel mills at Bhilai, Durgapur, and Rourkela were established. Coal production was increased. More railway lines were added in the north east.
9. The Atomic Energy Commission was formed in 1957 with Homi J. Bhabha as the first chairman. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was established as a research institute. In 1957 a talent search and scholarship program was begun to find talented young students to train for work in nuclear power.

Solar-powered G-Shock Rose Gold Series watches

October 23, 2008 Casio has added to its well-known G-Shock collection with the introduction of its premium Rose Gold series. The new line of watches combine shock-resistance characteristics with self-adjusting atomic timekeeping technology and a mini solar panel for extended battery life.

The MTG1000BR-1A, GIEZ, GW700BRJ-1A, and GW1800BRJ-1A models all feature rose gold accents matched with matte black IP (ion plating) for a sporty yet sophisticated look. A tiny solar panel, combined with a large-capacity rechargeable battery, enables a variety of energy-hungry functions to operate smoothly and greatly reduces the need for battery changes. Self-adjusting, multi-band atomic timekeeping technology receives calibration signals automatically from up to five transmitters around the world (US, Germany, UK and two in Japan) and updates settings accordingly for pinpoint accuracy, even adjusting for leap year and daylight saving time.

IPL TO BE PLAYED OUTSIDE INDIA

England and South Africa have emerged as the front-runners to host the second season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the BCCI decided, following days of inconclusive negotiations with the Indian home ministry and various state governments, to shift the tournament out of India. The venue and new schedule will be announced soon. Shashank Manohar, the BCCI president, said the tournament had been relocated "because of the extraordinary situation existing this year." The 45-day tournament clashes with the forthcoming general elections in India and there had been concerns over security. But IPL commissioner Lalit Modi has also assured that the tournament will be back to India next year. IPL Franchise owners Preity Zinta, Shahrukh Khan, VIjay Mallya, Manoj Badale have all backe BCCI's decision to conduct it outside instead of scrapping or truncating the tournament

DTMF (dual tone multi frequency)

DTMF is a subscriber service provided by the GSM network.DTMF is a tone signaling scheme often used for various control purposes via the telephone network, such as remote control of an answering machine. GSM supports full-originating DTMF.

DTMF (dual tone multi frequency) is the signal to the phone company that you generate when you press an ordinary telephone's touch keys. In the United States and perhaps elsewhere, it's known as "Touchtone" phone (formerly a registered trademark of AT&T). DTMF has generally replaced loop disconnect ("pulse") dialling. With DTMF, each key you press on your phone generates two tones of specific frequencies. So that a voice can't imitate the tones, one tone is generated from a high-frequency group of tones and the other from a low frequency group. A number of companies make microchips that send and receive DTMF signals. The Telephony Application Program Interface (TAPI) provides a way for a program to detect DTMF digits.
